Master Studies

Masters are a full time study that generally takes two years to complete. Apart from lectures and tutorials, other activities in the programs expected to include site visits, projects, group work and internships.

There are two types of masters program.

Master by Coursework, where no major research work involves and students appear for the final exam at the end of their classes Master by Research, where students involves greatly in research activities and they need to submit a dissertation (thesis) at the end of their program.

Admission Requirements

To get admission to the master’s program, applicants must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university with an academic standing of at least a B+.

Canadian universities do not accept Indian three year bachelor degree for the master’s program admission. Students need to complete a one year diploma or a master’s degree in order to be eligible for Canadian master’s program.

Depending on students’ subject area, they may be asked to provide a graduate entrance test score such as a Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or Graduate Record Examination (GRE).

English Lanugage Requirements

If your native language is not English so you have to give either IELTS or TOEFL exam these two exams accepted by all the universities. Average minimum TOEFL requirement is 80 and minimum IELTS requirement is 6.5.

Expenses & Scholarships

The average tuition fee for graduate program is around CAD$7,000 to CAD$25,000 per year. However it can be varied depending on the program or university.

Students average living expenses is around CAD$12000 per year but can be varied depending on the students lifestyle.

International students are generally offered a range of scholarships given by Individual universities and colleges. Although research and teaching assistantships are available, but they are limited for master’s programs.

Doctoral Studies

In order to complete a doctoral degree in Canada, students need to complete an original research and require to defend a thesis. In general, it takes three years of full-time residency, although it might take longer to complete the doctoral thesis, as a longer period of directed research and writing is often required.

Admission Requirements

For PhD program, applicants must hold a Master’s degree from an accredited university with an academic standing of at least a B+. If students’ Master’s degree is still in progress, they can submit their current transcripts at the time of application, and then send final copies to the respective universities once they receive their degree.

Depending on students’ subject area, they may be asked to provide test score exams such as a Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or Graduate Record Examination (GRE).

All the universities accept either IELTS or TOEFL exam score. For PhD programs, universities normally ask for higher score comparing to master programs. Generally an IELTS score of 7.5 and TOEFL score of 100 is requires being eligible to apply for good universities.
